A 10 minute recipe for an Everyday Breakfast
Being a mom of my two little boys can be a daunting task on some days. That's when the creative side of my brain works at it's best. Like they say, necessity is the mother of invention. In my case necessity is the mother of finding the easiest thing to cook in the least amount of time. And so, on days like these - French Toast to the rescue!
This particular dish was made by my husband who would normally stray away from the idea of cooking even if he was starving! So imagine how easy it is!
RECIPE
Serves : As many as you like
All you need is :
Sliced Bread (Preferably white bread - Wibs / Britannia)
One Egg - for 6 to 8 slices
Sugar - 1 or 2 heaping tbs (depending on your taste, we used 1)
Milk - Half a cup
Vanilla Essence - 5 to 6 drops
The Quick Process :
Beat the egg thoroughly with a fork or a beater in a bowl, at the sugar and continue to beat. Add the milk and continue to beat. Add the vanilla essence and mix. The mixture is now ready.
Heat some evenly spread oil in a frying pan and bring it to medium heat. Soak each slice of bread in the mixture for not more than 5 secs each (to avoid sogginess and breaking) and place it gently on the pan. If the pan is large, it can accommodate more than one slice. Flip over after 1 minute. You will get a slight burnt appearance because of the sugar. Make sure you keep a close watch on the level of heat to avoid burning. Add a little more oil for the later slices if required as bread soaks up oil. Don't use too much oil, just enough for light frying.
TIP : Place the french toasts on a tissue/paper to absorb any excess oil. Serve alongside tea, milk or coffee for a fulfilling breakfast.
Try it out and let me know how you did :)
